Well not exactly a manicure, just a change in nail colour. It’s becoming a new Sunday-night custom for me to paint my nails, and I just love how tonight’s colour turned out.

It’s a Nicole by OPI polish I picked up on clearance for $3 this winter called Keeping up with Santa — after googling it I found out it’s actually part of the Kardashian Kolors 2012 collection for OPI. The colour is really pretty: it’s a deep red with some micro-shimmer, as Let them have Polish describes in a review.

Obviously it’s meant for the Christmas season, but I’ll be wearing it year round.

It’s like everything I own has suddenly become ordinary. My annual tax return-funded gift to myself arrived today: Karen Walker Anytime sunglasses. They are gorgeous! The tortoise print is perfectly bold, the shape is amazing and they feel so sturdy & well-made. I couldn’t make up my mind between these and the Number One style for such a long time, but I definitely made the right decision.

If I let myself, I could find something to buy at Forever21 every time I go in, but I usually don’t let that happen. Last week I did pick up the necklace on the left that says “going steady” with the two faces. I just love it and have been wearing it everyday. I know how popular statement necklaces are this year but I still like the option of a simple charm necklace.

There are SO many great choices right now for low-heel sandals. I chose some of my favourites to share — there is definitely someone for everyone! I own the 2013 version of #7, Sam Edelman’s Trina, in black and I just love them. Also, I saw #1 (in black) recently at Marshall’s for $299 and I was pretty tempted… but, I resisted and decided next month’s rent is slightly more important.

If I had the money I could shop at Zara every day of the week. But since I don’t, I settle for window shopping and browsing most of the time.The newly-launched online shopping for Canadians means I can drool over the bold prints and tailored basics from my couch. Jil Sander has always been one of my favourite designers — and not just because we share a first name.

I’ve admittedly never looked all that closely at her shoes, but these sandals caught my eye recently and I wish I could say they were in my price range!

Still, the low version from Topshop is pretty appealing and I would be happy to have them!

I love shopping for used clothes. Whether it’s Salvation Army, Value Village, or a local consignment store, I’m a fan. I have a special weakness for Value Village because of the huge selection and high turnover, and I’ve gone there for years. When I lived in Prince Edward Island I lived close to one, and I would be there a lot… Now that I live in Toronto it’s not as easy to get to a V.V. (which is a good thing), so when I do make the journey I take my time to make sure I don’t miss anything! Today I found some great pieces that I absolutely love.

high vs. low: studded clutch

When something gets really trendy I sometimes end up avoiding it (ie Uggs), but other times I’m all over it… like stud detailing, which I admitted after my neckless-buying spree a couple of weeks ago.

I don’t have a studded bag yet, though I often regret not picking up one of the Zara totes that were in the store last fall and winter. I could still order one online but I’m trying to focus on summer right now!

All-over studs will likely be a passing trend so I would opt for the cheaper pick here, the $24 bag from Forever 21. The $495 option is Tory Burch.

my TOPSHOP picks: dresses

Here in Toronto we’re lucky to have two Topshop locations to shop at — one is downtown at The Bay on Queen street, the other at Yorkdale Mall — still, the selection doesn’t even come close to what’s offered online.

The quantity and variety of merchandise on the Topshop site is amazing and overwhelming. It’s a good thing that we’re charged outrageous import duties or I would be placing orders all the time!
